Why we do what we do…
Newcastle City Council for Disabled Children
Has an aim to make sure children and young people get the right support at the right time, SUNSEN is here to help them.
When we set out our values, we asked our community. We are here to provide the best care for young persons. SUNSEN is a sunny, welcoming environment for young people to relax, socialise and feel safe and comfortable while enjoying the therapies and services that we provide. Our best interests are to benefit the well-being of the young people as well as the Guardians. We provide updates using the Class Dojo app, so that while you are using our services you are worry free and will be kept informed. Our biggest aim is to provide care where no one else can, and in deprived areas with lack of funding. We are building SUNSEN to be a recognisable brand in the care industry which can be easily franchised from the get go. We have created strict yet informative policies to ensure quality and efficiency.
What to expect…
SUNSEN services provide essential therapies and well-being practices for children and young people with Special Educational Needs. During the hours of respite that you have booked, your Young person will be emersed in a sensory, safe and comfortable environment that has lots to offer. Your child can have the opportunity to use the sensory room, which is a relaxing, stimulating room that calms, comforts and can enhance learning through occupational therapy. The sensory room can also help enhance and engage different areas of the brain leading to improved information retention, while also improving visual, auditory and tactile processing. Your young person can also take part in daily living skills such as cooking which is a fun but important skill. Art therapy is also ran at our SUNSEN centre which allows children with ASD to recognise and control their emotions in a structured situation. This helps identify triggers and coping mechanisms which can be transferred into home life. There will also be access to an outdoor sensory garden where children can relax and overcome the hyper-sensitivity to their surroundings while providing them with gardening tasks and a functional outdoor space that can be used for playtime. Alongside, their will be ongoing sports, sensory opportunities and arts and crafts that will help maintain structure throughout the day in which will be adjusted and suitable for the specific needs of the young people.
